Roosevelt gives back with Back to School Bash
Roosevelt High School Family Specialist Melissa Mendiola could not be more excited about the upcoming school year.
“I love serving people,” said Mendiola. “We want to make sure all the students start out with all the tools they need to have a successful school year.”
That is why she and all the rest of the Family Specialists from the Roosevelt cluster of schools worked tirelessly to put on the Back to School Bash at Roosevelt before school starts.
The Back to School Bash gave families the opportunity to pick up school supplies, chose from more than 1,000 backpacks and select some fun summer reading books. Community partners like Cane’s and Dunkin’ Donuts offered drinks and gift cards. The San Antonio Food Bank helped families sign up for food assistance. Other organizations provided families with socks and shoes and helped make sure their immunizations were up-to-date.
But that wasn’t all; Roosevelt cheerleaders, Dazzlers, JROTC and various other Roosevelt student groups were on hand to help students get excited about the upcoming school year.
“This is what serving our whole community looks like,” said Mendiola. “This community truly, truly cares about the families here. The Roosevelt cluster family specialists are ready, willing, able and blessed to be able to serve our community.”
