North East ISD recently held a College and Career Expo for students to learn about their options after graduation. One of the businesses in attendance was Cox Manufacturing Company. They make CNC screw machine products. One of their representatives was a very familiar face, former Krueger School of Applied Technologies (KSAT) and Engineering & Technologies Academy (ETA) graduate Cary Carlisle. Cary now uses the knowledge gained in the magnet programs daily to create processes for measuring items based on customer designs.
During his time at NEISD, he took classes in rocketry mathematics. In addition, he used machinery like drill presses, band saws and scroll saws. Both of those opportunities set him up for the job he has now. He uses the knowledge gained in those classes and hands-on lessons on a daily basis.
“The various technologies I got to use at ETA have given me experience and a leg up on others,” said Carlisle. “I still stay connected with most of my former teachers. Mr. Lain was my rocketry teacher in seventh grade. He taught me how to use power tools and trusted me to use them. Ms. Thomas was my eighth-grade rocketry teacher. She really helped me understand rocketry and other engineering concepts.”
Starting next year, KSAT and ETA are further focusing their aerospace curriculum and becoming the Space and Engineering Technologies Academy (SETA). Students will have four amazing pathways focused on aerospace engineering, aviation, computer science and manufacturing and mechanical engineering.
