The High School $3,000 Best-in-Show prize went to San Antonio, Texas 12th grader Piper Bangs, who attends North East School of the Arts at LEE High School. “Portrait of Sofya Kovalevskava in the Grand Manner”, Bangs’ fine art piece, pays homage to Sofya Kovalevskaya, a mathematician who challenged gender norms in order to earn her doctorate and become a university professor.
