Queen of the Keys

Kadence holds the NEISD way sign in the band hallKadence Howell is queen of the keys as a pianist in the Johnson High School marching band.

Her path started at Roan Forest Elementary School, where she embraced that passion for music and performance. It continued at Bradley Middle School and Johnson. This journey through NEISD Fine Arts programs prepared and supported her through every level.

Now, every hour spent practicing and perfecting her craft is culminating in her senior year. Kadence believes her determination and skillset elevated to an even higher level in high school.

"Being a part of the Johnson band program has taught me a completely different level of loving music and building relationships with the people around me. That's been the best part of being in the band. We put in a lot of hours and a lot of hard work goes into this."

Kadence and her bandmates are on a quest to achieve greatness this year. In 2020, Johnson claimed its first Texas UIL 6A State Marching Championship. The work is underway to reclaim that title.

Kadence recently found out that she's one of four NEISD seniors who will receive a $4,000 KSAT Pigskin Classic Scholarship. One football player and one band member from Johnson and Reagan High School will be presented with a scholarship check during the upcoming KSAT Pigskin Classic games at the Alamodome.

Way to go, Kadence!
