David Payne is the kind of person who leads with kindness around Johnson High School. That’s part of the personal legacy he’ll leave behind when he graduates. It was only right that Payne was surprised with a $1,000 David Molak Kindness Scholarship today in PALS class.
In total shock and surprise, Payne accepted the scholarship as his parents, teachers and classmates cheered him on. He’ll use the scholarship when he attends Utah State University, where he plans to study mechanical engineering.
Payne has loved his time in Johnson's Peer Assistance Leadership and Service (PALS) program. Thanks to PALS, he’s mentored students of all ages and embraced a leadership role on campus. He even coached Alternative Learning Environment (ALE) students in the recent Special Olympics ‘Hoop It Up’ basketball game. PALS teacher, Mandy LaCour, wrote a reference letter for Payne's scholarship application.
