Garner Yearlings lead the NEISD board meeting
Two outstanding Garner Middle School students led the North East ISD Board of Trustees regular meeting on Monday evening. They demonstrate outstanding qualities and accomplishments that their principal was proud to share.
“It is with pleasure that I am here and able to introduce two talented and outstanding Lady Yearlings who epitomize pride and other character pillars at Garner Middle School,” said Principal Nicole Monet.
Areli Bugarin led trustees, District leadership and guests with the meeting’s invocation. Areli is an exceptional eighth grade student athlete. She participates in cross country, volleyball, basketball and track. Areli is also in AVID, PALS and the National Junior Honor Society.
She was joined that evening by her parents, Olivia and Jesus Bugarin, her brother Jesse and niece and nephews Isabella, Jesse and Liam.
Maite Alvarez took the podium next and led the pledges to the U.S. and Texas flags. Maite is also an eighth grade student at Garner. She is part of the school’s dual language program, and a member of AVID and the school orchestra. Maite is the Vice President of the National Junior Honor Society and plays tennis and golf.
She was joined that evening by her parents Rafael Alvarez and Candelaria Correra, and her brother Brian Alvarez.
NEISD student athlete recognitions
Executive Director of Athletics Kelly Parker introduced outstanding student athletes who were awarded at the state level.
Madison High School’s Brandon Long earned a bronze medal in the UIL 6A State Wrestling Meet in the 215-pound weight class. He was joined by his coach Blaine Pederson and principal Eric Wernli.
Several swimmers from Reagan High School came home with medals from the UIL 6A State Swim Meet. Montserrat Spielmann is the Girls 200 Freestyle and 100 Butterfly state champion. Grant Lilly is the Boys 500 Freestyle state champion.
The 400 Freestyle Relay silver medalists include Montserrat Spielmann, Amelia Miller, Andrea Torres Sosa and Tessa Christiansen.
They were joined by their coach Michael Rourke and principal Dr. Charles Reininger.
Also being recognized was the 6A Division II state medalist girls basketball team from Churchill High School.
This team includes Bella Curry, Alina Hernandez, Aliyah Young, Courtney Kohler, Alexis Martens, Rakiya Nelson, Danyelle Zuniga, Emilia Ryann, Makayla Walker, Daphne Zuniga, Ava Fernandez, Aubrey Husky, Marcela Alcala, Khloe McCoy and Jocilyn Mayers.
They were joined by their coach Jamie Grams and principal Todd Bloomer.
