Montgomery Elementary School had the opportunity to be up front and center at the regular meeting of the North East ISD Board of Trustees.

“It is my pleasure to introduce two of our outstanding Mustangs who will lead us in our invocation and pledges,” said TJ Click, principal of Montgomery Elementary School. “They model what it truly means to be a Mustang.”

Fifth grader Laylonie Ivey led guests in the invocation. She has been a Montgomery student since pre-kindergarten. She is a member of the school’s Strings Program, Music Club, Safety Patrol and campus ROTC Club. She will attend the DATA magnet school program at Ed White Middle School next year. She was joined at the meeting by her mother, Ashley Ivey.

Fifth grader Seth Vargas led guests in the pledges to the U.S. and Texas flags. He is in the Gemini Ink Writing Club, GT program, ROTC Club, Music Club and Safety Patrol. He will attend the SETA magnet school program at Krueger Middle School next year. He was joined that evening by his parents Veronica and Seth Sr., and by his siblings Isabella and Shawn.

 

NEISD Volunteer of the Year

The recipient of this year’s Student Volunteer of the Year Award was honored at the May 2025 regular board meeting. Rachelle Barrera is a senior at Legacy of Educational Excellence High School. This school year, she has dedicated more than 600 hours to her school and community through the organizations she is involved with.  Most notably, Rachelle volunteered with the Assistance League of San Antonio, where she decorated hats and made stitch dolls for cancer patients. She has been a part of this program for over three years. Rachelle will attend the University of Texas at Austin in the fall, where she wants to pursue a degree in Public Health.

 

Do the Write Thing Essay Finalist

North East ISD participates in the national Do the Write Thing Essay contest every year. This year, Bush Middle School student Hussein Ibrahim was recognized for his writing. Hussein was the 2nd place regional winner for Bexar County. He won a laptop, and his essay will be archived into the Library of Congress with other top finalists from across the country.

 

UIL 6A State Track Medalist

Jewelia Gonzalez at board meeting

Madison High School freshman Jewelia Gonzalez recently competed in the UIL 6A State Track Meet. She won the bronze medal in the girls 400-meter wheelchair race. This is the first time NEISD has placed in this competition.
