The School Nurse

School Nurses and clinic assistants have many responsibilities. In addition to providing basic care for cuts, scrapes, and minor injuries they are also responsible for:

• Hearing and Vision Screenings for all pre-Kinder, Kinder, 1st, 3rd, and 5th graders
• Growth assessment for all student pre-K through 5th grade
• Spinal screening for all 5th graders
• Dental screening for 3rd graders
• Acanthosis Nigricans screening for all 1st, 3rd, and 5th graders
• Maturation education for all 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders
• Health education for all students
• Administration of medication for those that require them (with Physician orders)
• Verification of compliance of state mandated immunizations
• Serve as resource personnel to the classroom teacher and administrator in health instruction and as a member of the health curriculum development committees.
• Coordinate school and community health activities and serve as liaison personnel between the home, school, and community.
• Assists in the formation of health policies, goals, and objectives for the school unit.
