Community Update for April 14

Dear ISA Families,

One of the pillars of ISA’s graduate profile asks students to Take Action to realize positive changes in their community. On Friday last week, we continued our whole community commitment to action as ISA students and staff traveled to sites on campus, near campus, and across San Antonio to participate in community service. ISA advisories participated in facilities clean-ups, gardening, animal care and served communities ranging in age from Pre-K to retirees with the goal of making our world a better place. Marking our tenth year, Friday’s annual Globie Youth Service Day was a great day to celebrate community and take action! Thank you to ISA Service Learning Coordinator, Betsy Gorski, and the ISA Leadership Team for organizing the logistics for ISA’s day of service; Yvette Peña Cook along with students on the Junior and Senior boards for design our 1st Minute-to-Win-it Advisory tournament; and to all of our teachers and staff for chaperoning their advisories and serving alongside our students! Experiences like these have established and maintained authentic and meaningful bonds with a community that is special and unique!

On Tuesday, April 16, 2024, Spring testing season continues at ISA. On Tuesday, ISA 9th graders will sit for the STAAR Biology EOC. Two days later, on Thursday, April 18th, ISA 11th graders will sit for the STAAR U.S. History EOC. In preparation for STAAR we encourage families to help students get a good night’s rest, eat breakfast, and arrive at school on time. Good luck 9th graders!

  • Tuesday, April 16th - 9th grade Biology

  • Thursday, April 18th - 11th grade U.S. History

  • Tuesday, April 23rd - 9th grade Algebra I

Also on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, ISA’s Chapter of the National Honor Society (NHS) will induct their newest members in the Performing Arts Center (PAC). New NHS Inductees are asked to arrive at the PAC by 6:30 p.m. and the induction ceremony will begin at 7:00 p.m. NHS members standout and exemplify the pillars of Scholarship, Service, Leadership, and Character in the ISA Community. Congratulations to our newest NHS members!

Finally, last week I shared that Friday, April 5, 2024, marked the end of the first three-weeks. I got that wrong.  The three-weeks period actually concluded on Friday, April 12th. Progress reports for this period will be available in Skyward by the end of this week!

Have a great week!

Sincerely,

Steve Magadance and the ISA Faculty
