Community Update for March 24

Dear ISA Families,

On Wednesday evening last week, we welcomed 20 students and 2 teachers from ISA’s sister school in Frankfurt, Germany. Students shadowed their hosts in classes on Thursday and Friday. We also hosted a potluck dinner on Friday evening to formally welcome our guests! This week the group will continue to shadow their hosts and visit the San Antonio Missions! Many of our students hosting during this exchange were also hosted by their current guests when ISA visited Frankfurt during Spring Break. It is amazing to see how powerful our two-way exchange visits are in establishing authentic bonds between students and families. Listening to students happily share their similar and different experiences is a true pleasure. As host families explore the San Antonio area this weekend and this week with their guests, it reminds us how important it is to be curious about our world. Exchanges like this--and travel in general--open us to new, exciting perspectives. We are thrilled to celebrate the 10th year of our exchange relationship with Ziehenschule Gymnasium in Frankfurt!

Last week remained busy and exciting at ISA by celebrating seniors, listening to ISA 9th and 10th graders share their learning and proposing plans to improve their community, and previewing the senior experience with our juniors! Events like community night, summa recognition, and welcoming international exchange guests provide perfect opportunities to stop, reflect, and enjoy the special community we share at ISA! There are many more opportunities to embrace Community, and we hope you can all enjoy an experience or two.

The ISA Amigos sends a huge thanks out to everyone who donated to and participated in the annual ISA Amigos's Silent Auction this past Thursday. Together, we raised over $7,100 in support of ISA student travel experiences!  This is an amazing total! Also, congratulations to the winning bidders! If you have not yet made arrangements to pick up your auction items, the ISA Amigos will be reaching out to make arrangements.

Tuesday, March 26, 2024, is our next--and final--campus early release day of the 2023-2024 school year.  School will dismiss at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

On Thursday, March 28, 2024, ISA’s Chapter of the National English Honor Society (NEHS) will host an Open Mic Night from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Library MPR. The event is open to ALL and students are invited to read original creative pieces or passages/poems from a favorite author! We look forward to seeing students at the Open Mic on Thursday!

The NEHS would also like to share that applications to join opened on March 18th and will close on April 12, 2024 at 4:30 p.m.  Any rising sophomore, junior, or senior who meets the application eligibility requirements are invited to apply. Students can learn more about the application and upcoming events on the NEHS website HERE!

Thursday, March 28th, Jostens will be on campus to distribute graduation packets and caps and gowns for the Class of 2024! Distribution will be in the cafeteria during all three lunches.

Looking ahead, we want to highlight two upcoming opportunities for students!

  • Job & Internship Field Trip - FOR SENIORS ONLY - NEISD is hosting a field trip for seniors on April 3, 2024. Two sessions are available,  and the first 100 students who sign up for each session will be eligible to attend! This is a great chance to connect with employers and explore post-graduation options. The fair is open to any ISA or LEE seniors.  Students can scan the QR code in THIS flier and pick up a permission slip from the counseling office.

  • Big Ten Academic Alliance College Fair - Visit with representatives from BIG 10 schools on April 16, 2024! Students and families will be able to meet with several universities and learn about their application processes, scholarships and financial aid, academic programs, and campus life. Information for this event is on THIS flier!

On Saturday, April 6, 2024, the LEE Student Council presents Romance in the City! Tickets for this year’s Junior/Senior prom cost $40 and went on sale Wednesday last week! Sales will continue during all lunches on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday! Students who wish to invite a guest who does not attend school at LEE/ISA/NESA/STEM can pick up an off-campus guest form in the ISA Office.

April is Fiesta time in San Antonio! The LEE Band is participating in this year’s Battle of the Bands Festival on April 25th and marching in the Battle of Flowers parade on April 26th! The LEE Band Booster is selling tickets to raise funds to support the band. If you are interested in attending the Battle of Flowers and/or the Fiesta Flambeau parades support our Band Program by purchasing tickets for these events:

The LEE Band would also like to invite our community to an exhibition of talent featuring  the Winter Guard and Indoor Percussion ensembles on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, in the LEE Main Gymnasium. Tickets cost $5 and the exhibitions begin at 6:30 p.m.

If you have questions, please contact Victoria Watson at vwatso@neisd.net

On Monday, April 8, 2024, our campus is expected to be in the path of totality for an unique astronomical event! As we plan for students to learn about and view the total eclipse of the sun we wanted to share that we will be able to provide viewers for all ISA students on April 8th! We also know that some families may not want their students to participate in the viewing. If this is the case, we ask that you opt-out of the experience by completing and submitting THIS Eclipse Opt-out to the ISA Main Office by Wednesday, April 3, 2024!

Sincerely,
