Community Update for November 26

Dear ISA Families,

Welcome back!! We hope that the Thanksgiving holiday provided an opportunity to rest and reconnect with family! Three grade level travel experiences have concluded, and we have three weeks remaining in the first semester! We encourage our entire community to recommit to finishing the semester strong! Our first semester exams begin for students on Tuesday, December 12, 2023!

The NEISD Exam Exemption Policy contains important differences from previous years. Key pieces of the policy of which to be aware include:

  • Extenuating Circumstances “X” attendance codes will not count toward determining eligibility for an exemption, and

  • There will not be an appeal process for this year’s exemption submissions.

First Semester Exam Exemptions will open on Monday, December 4, at 7:00 a.m. through Wednesday, December 7, at 4:30 p.m. Students will be able to access the Exam Exemption Application through Skyward: Student Access. Students are invited to review THIS handout to assist in completing the exemption application process.

If you have questions about the information contained in the above link that also contains an FAQ, please contact us at smagad@neisd.net or dgauna@neisd.net

On Wednesday, November 15th, our campus CCMR Specialist, Carin Schramm, sent an update with important information. Included in this update was information about accessing and understanding PSAT scores that were released on November 16th! We also remind ISA seniors and their families that this year’s Free Application of Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form is set to open on December 31st. Families can read more about the new form and the release date HERE!

As we begin the push to the end of the semester, we will also continue looking ahead to the ISA Class of 2028! ISA will host our next shadowing day on Thursday, November 30th, and participate in the Final NEISD High School Magnet Night at Garner Middle School on Monday, December 4th! ISA’s Ambassador Team will be in the cafeteria from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Send your friends who are interested in ISA to visit and learn more about what it means to be a Globie! The Lottery Application for the ISA Class of 2028 is available HERE!

MUNSA XXVIII: Unity is less than one month! As this year’s secretariat continues to prepare for this year’s conference at Trinity University, we want to share how proud we are of these student leaders and our MUNSA sponsors, Catherine Polk and Willa Rubin, who have guided the secretariat in planning this year’s experience. On Thursday during our Advisory period, we will celebrate MUNSA XXVIII with our annual pep rally! This year’s MUNSA is scheduled to be the largest attended conference in the 28 year history, and we are excited to celebrate on Thursday and for what is in store on January 4th and 5th!

Finally, the North East Educational Foundation (NEEF) is participating in this year’s Giving Tuesday! This global day of giving is scheduled for November 28th, but you can contribute through November 30th, 2023. With a donation equivalent to the cost of a taco, families can play a vital role in enhancing the educational experience for NEISD students.

NEEF's mission is to extend students’ experiences beyond the standard curriculum, paving the way for a brighter future for NEISD students through Student Impact Grants. These grants, which fund initiatives like field trips, essential furniture, shade structures, STEAM bins, and more, are made possible by individuals like you. Your support for NEEF directly impacts 72 campuses and programs. If you are interested in donating, www.northeastfoundation.org/biggive.

Have a great week!

Sincerely,

Steve Magadance and the ISA Faculty
