Community Update for October 9
Dear ISA Families,
Monday, October 10, is a school holiday. We look forward to seeing students back in the ISA hallways on Tuesday, October 11, 2022.
On Wednesday, October 12, ISA 9th, 10th, and 11th graders will take the PSAT. A portion of the PSAT covers mathematics and while the PSAT is designed so that students do not need a calculator, all 11th graders will have access to a calculator during the administration. We ask that 9th and 10th graders bring their own calculator to the PSAT administration on October 13. For juniors, this administration of the PSAT qualifies as their entry into the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (NMSQT). We recommend that juniors get a good night’s rest on Tuesday to do their best on the day of the PSAT.
Also on Wednesday, ISA 12th graders will have a late arrival on campus at 12:oo p.m. Seniors will have access to lunch on campus immediately upon arrival. Following lunch, seniors will report to the Sergiovanni Room on the second floor of the ISA Main Building to learn more about the class travel experience to Washington, D.C.!
The ISA Amigos Board will meet on Thursday, October 13, 2022, at 6:00 p.m. in the ISA Flex Space (S-103). Join us to celebrate the success of the garage sale and look ahead to coming events. Please park in the visitor parking lot in front of the LEE HS Main Building. All are welcome!
Last week, the ISA Lottery Application for the Class of 2027 opened! As usual, ISA will host in-person shadowing opportunities for families interested in visiting our campus to learn more. Shadowing information is available HERE. We know that our students are our best ambassadors! ISA is looking for current ISA students who are interested in sharing their ISA experience by participating in student panels and magnet events with prospective families! ISA students interested in creating and presenting new materials for our recruiting season are invited to complete this Student Interest Form. ISA will host our next shadowing group on campus next Thursday, October 20!
Last Wednesday, October 5, 2022, the payment window for AP Exams opened. AP Exams can be paid for by credit card through Skyward: Student Access--not Family Access. HERE are instructions about how to submit payment. The deadline for credit card payments is November 11, 2022. Cash payments for AP Exams are also acceptable. Students can submit cash payments in the LEE Counseling Office through November 11, 2022!
Looking ahead, on Saturday, October 22, 2022, the LEE Campus Student Council will present the LEE/ISA/STEM/NESA Homecoming Dance “Under the Neon Lights” from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at Littleton Gymnasium. Tickets for the dance will be available for $20 during all lunches beginning on October 3, 2022. ISA students who want to bring an off-campus guest, will need to pick up a clearance form in the ISA main office. All forms must be submitted to the ISA main office by THIS Friday, October 14, 2022 for approval. Students will not be able to purchase a ticket for an off-campus guest until the request is approved by ISA Administration, and tickets will not be sold at the door. For more information please contact Student Council Sponsor Lucinda Castro at firstname.lastname@example.org.
NEISD Gifted & Talented (GT) is hosting a district Parent Awareness Meeting on Thursday, October 20, 2022 at 6:30 p.m. at NEISD Community Learning Center (CLC). This meeting is open to anyone interested in learning more about GT including K-12 GT services, gifted in Texas, referrals and assessment, GT curriculum, and parent resources. Interested families can review THIS flier for more information.
On October 27, grade level teams will host their next travel information meetings, and MUNSA will host our annual Pancake Supper in the LEE HS cafeteria! This event will also be the next opportunity to purchase ISA Spirit items. Save the date and we look forward to seeing families on campus again on October 27!
As ISA teachers continue to prepare for these impactful travel experiences, our campus nurse, Crystal Rios, is also preparing to ensure that students requiring medication during overnight travel are all ready to go. Nurse Rios has prepared some reminders and procedures to help families ensure that their students get what they need while traveling in November.
All medications, along with the proper forms, should be turned in to the campus clinic on or before Wednesday, November 9, 2022.
Special requests requiring doctor’s orders should be on file with the nurse by October 31, 2022!
NEISD employee chaperones will administer medication. Students may NOT carry ANY medication on their person unless they have a current doctor's order to self-carry from the school nurse for this school year.
If you are not sure about the above details or have any questions, please, contact Nurse Rios at (210) 356-0803 or by email at email@example.com.
More detailed information about procedures--including items we CANNOT accept is outlined on THIS medical information form.
Finally, Friday, October 7, 2022, marked the end of the first quarter of the school year, and the first report card of the year will be available in Skyward by the end of this week! As students and teachers commence the second quarter together, we want to encourage families to pause and reflect on the momentum we built during our first quarter of the year! Working with students each day reminds us how important relationships are to the ISA Experience. When you reflect with your student(s) about grades and organization, also ask them what excites them about school, what they look forward to, and what challenges them? If you hear anything that concerns you or that you are unsure about, please reach out to your student’s teachers to get more information or support. As we continue to build strong bonds with our students, we know our partnership with families is a foundational component of the ISA Community!
Have a fantastic week!
Steve Magadance and the ISA Faculty
