Community Update for October2

Dear ISA Families,

This weekend began with an early Saturday morning for ISA students, teachers, and parents who volunteered at the 9th grade Garage Sale supporting this year’s 9th grade Travel Experience to Houston. Smiling faces together committed to supporting school travel for everyone! Fundraising events like our garage sale help ISA continue to offer learning experiences that extend our culture of curiosity and exploration outside of the classroom making the ISA Experience unique. A huge thank you goes out to all of our volunteers including parents, students, teachers, Trinity MAT Interns, and ISA Amigos Board Members who worked organizing and pricing items on Friday, staffing the garage sale on Saturday morning, cleaning up when the sale concluded, and all those who donated items for the sale. Your generosity and effort raised over $4,400!! ISA would like to extend a special, HUGE thank you to 9th grade parent, Carrie Jowers, whose leadership made this year’s event an amazing success!

On Monday and Wednesday this week are the final opportunities for students to receive preparation for October administrations of the PSAT and SAT. English/Language Arts sessions will be held in ISA Room (S-102) and Math sessions will be held in ISA Room 115. All sessions will begin at 4:30 p.m. ISA students who are unable to attend can still access resources and practice material in the Google Classroom using join code: UY7APV2. These sessions will prepare juniors for the school day administration of the PSAT/NMSQT on October 12, 2022, and eligible seniors for the school day administration of the SAT on October 27, 2022.

Yesterday, the ISA Lottery Application for the Class of 2027 opened! As usual, ISA will host in-person shadowing opportunities for families interested in visiting our campus to learn more. Shadowing information is available HERE. We know that our students are our best ambassadors! We are looking for current ISA students who are interested in sharing their ISA experience by participating in student panels and magnet events with prospective families! ISA students interested in creating and presenting new materials for our recruiting season are invited to complete this Student Interest Form. ISA will host our first shadowing group on campus this Friday, October 7!

MUNSA is hosting two fundraisers this week! MUNSA XXVII: Empower t-shirts go on sale Tuesday, October 4, during all lunches. After school on Tuesday, join the MUNSA secretariat at Amy’s Ice Cream in the Quarry Market (255 E Basse Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209) to support our effort raising funds for this year’s designated NGO the YWCA. Proceeds from the event will help provide legal and medical services to families in the San Antonio Community. We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday!

Wednesday, October 5, is designated as World Teacher’s Day. Celebrated annually since 1994 by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), World Teacher’s Day recognizes the challenging and fulfilling work of teachers! For all of our students, teachers at ISA commit to cultivating an environment that provides access and opportunities to achieve socially and academically beyond levels students might think are possible. ISA teachers train our students to be critical thinkers and to develop solutions that address some of our world’s most pressing problems. ISA teachers refine and grow their own professional skills and model for all of us the importance of reflective practice and lifelong learning. Annually, teachers pour thousands of dollars and emotional capital into our community. ISA is so privileged to enjoy THIS community with THIS group of ISA teachers and Trinity MAT Teaching Interns. I am thankful that they continue to bring their intellect, energy, and love to our hallways daily for the benefit of ISA students. I invite our entire community to show your appreciation in any way you think possible not only on Wednesday but as frequently as possible all year long!

On Wednesday, October 5, 2022, the payment window for AP Exams will open. AP Exams can be paid for by credit card through Skyward: Student Access--not Family Access. The deadline to sign up for ASVAB is Monday, November 7, 2022. The next ASVAB will be on February 9, 2023.

The next ISA Amigos Board meeting will be held on Thursday, October 13, 2022, at 6:00 p.m. in the ISA Flex Space (S-103). Join us to celebrate the success of the garage sale and look ahead to coming events. All are welcome!

On October 27, grade level teams will host their next travel information meetings, and we will host our annual MUNSA Pancake Supper in the LEE HS cafeteria! This event will also be the next opportunity to purchase ISA Spirit items.  Follow this weekly update for more details about meeting locations and supper ticket sales soon!

ISA 9th, 10th, and 11th grade families will learn more information about ISA Travel Week when students load up charter buses headed to Houston, Santa Fe, and Birmingham for ISA Travel Week! As ISA teachers continue to prepare for these impactful travel experiences, our campus nurse, Crystal Rios, is also preparing to ensure that students requiring medication during overnight travel are all ready to go. Nurse Rios has prepared some reminders and procedures to help families ensure that their students get what they need while traveling in November.

  • All medications, along with the proper forms, should be turned in to the campus clinic on or before Wednesday, November 9, 2022.

  • Special requests requiring doctor’s orders should be on file with the nurse by October 31, 2022!

  • NEISD employee chaperones will administer medication. Students may NOT carry ANY medication on their person unless they have a current doctor's order to self-carry from the school nurse for this school year.

  • If you are not sure about the above details or have any questions, please, contact Nurse Rios at (210) 356-0803 or by email at crios3@neisd.net.

More detailed information about procedures--including items we CANNOT accept is outlined on THIS medical information form.

At the beginning of September, this update shared information about the Community Eligibility Provision and the importance of completing this community survey that helps ensure that ALL students on the LEE/ISA/NESA/STEM campus are provided with free breakfast and lunch options at school. Even if your family does not participate in breakfast and lunch service on campus, a response to the survey is required from all ISA families. At the end of the business day tomorrow, Monday, October 3, a final text notification will be sent to all Primary contacts listed in Skyward: Family Access in the ISA Community. This notification will only be sent to families who have not yet responded to the survey. Additionally, ISA families who do not have a text capable device or have not responded by text will receive a paper copy of the survey. These paper copies can be submitted to Veronica Villarreal in the ISA main office. Thank you to all of our families who have already responded to this important survey, and thank you to families who will respond in the coming days!

Finally, Monday, October 10, is a school holiday. We look forward to seeing students back in the ISA hallways on Tuesday, October 11, 2022, and 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students will sit for the PSAT on Wednesday, October 12. Additionally, October 12 has been designated as a senior late arrival day and all seniors are expected to report to campus at 12:00 p.m.

Have a great week!

Sincerely,

Steve Magadance and the ISA Faculty
