Community Update for September 18

Dear ISA Families,

We hope this week’s update finds everyone safe and well! We want to thank our students and families for discussing safety on our campus! We ask that you continue to remind and discuss with students the importance of not propping doors open around campus and not opening the doors to unfamiliar individuals who are waiting at external doorways. Working together in this way will help keep our campus safe!

On Tuesday, September 20, the LEE Campus PTSA invites the LEE/ISA/NESA/STEM community to its annual PTSA Back-to-School Night. This annual celebration provides families with an opportunity to get updates from LEE Campus PTSA and to follow your student’s schedule to meet teachers. Families will follow THIS bell schedule during the evening after the night kicks off with a PTSA General Meeting in the PAC at 6:00 p.m.

On the same evening, look for a table with information about the Global Navigator international exchange program offered by the Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE). Representatives from CIEE will be on-campus to share information about summer exchange opportunities for ISA students and how to begin an application! This year, CIEE has earmarked $25,000 in need-based and academic support for ISA applicants! Stop by the table on Tuesday to learn more!

On Thursday this week, September 22, Jostens will be on campus during Advisory to present information about Class Rings to all juniors. ISA Juniors interested in ordering a class ring will receive an informational packet and will be able to submit an order for a Class Ring on Wednesday, September 28, 2022, during all three lunch periods.

Continuing on Monday and Wednesday this week and through October 5, 2022, ISA will offer in-person PSAT and SAT tutoring sessions. While our focus is to prepare ISA juniors and seniors for the PSAT and SAT, we do have space available for 9th and 10th graders! English/Lang Arts sessions will be held in ISA Room (S-102) and Math sessions will be held in ISA Room 115. All sessions will begin at 4:30 p.m. ISA students who are unable to attend can still access resources and practice material in the Google Classroom using join code: UY7APV. These sessions will prepare juniors for the school day administration of the PSAT/NMSQT on October 12, 2022, and the school day administration of the SAT on October 27, 2022, for eligible seniors. Additional tutoring dates beginning at 4:30 p.m. are listed below:

  • English/Lang Arts - Rm S102,  Mondays: Sept. 26, Oct. 3

  • Math - Rm 115 Wednesdays: Sept. 28, Oct. 5

For more information please contact our Deans by email at kyoung@neisd.net or cpolk@neisd.net.

Last week, this update shared information about the Community Eligibility Provision and the importance of completing this community survey that helps ensure that ALL students on the LEE/ISA/NESA/STEM campus are provided with free breakfast and lunch options at school. Even if your family does not participate in breakfast and lunch service on campus, a response to the survey is required from all ISA families. At the end of the business day on Monday, September 19, a second text notification will be sent to all Primary contacts listed in Skyward: Family Access in the ISA Community. This notification will only be sent to families who have not yet responded to the survey. ISA families who do not have a text capable device received a paper copy of the survey last week. These paper copies can be submitted to Veronica Villarreal in the ISA main office. Thank you to all of our families who have already responded to this important survey, and thank you to families who will respond this week!

Looking ahead, on Saturday, October 1, 2022, the ISA 9th grade class will host their annual ISA Garage Sale Fundraiser. In cooperation with the ISA Amigos, we encourage the ISA Community to SAVE THE DATE! We will also invite and coordinate volunteers to receive donations after school on Friday, September 30, 2022. 100% of proceeds from this fundraiser support the 9th grade class in their travel experience to Houston in November! If you might be interested in supporting this fundraising event, please click HERE or past this URL in the browser of your choice: shorturl.at/ehMS5 for a Sign-up Genius.

Now is also a great time to begin gathering donation items to this year’s garage sale. Household items and appliances; tools; toys; garden items and equipment, furniture, and gently used shoes have been popular in the past. However, please refrain from donations of clothing and non-flat screen televisions. While book donations are also not popular items, we will accept book donations that will go to support the annual NEISD PTSA used books sale! For more information, please contact ISA 9th grade parent, Carrie Jowers, at carrie.jowers@gmail.com

On Saturday, October 22, 2022, the LEE Campus Student Council will present the LEE/ISA/STEM/NESA Homecoming Dance “Under the Neon Lights” from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at Littleton Gymnasium. Tickets for the dance will be available for $20 during all lunches beginning on October 3, 2022. ISA students who want to bring an off-campus guest, will need to pick up a clearance form in the ISA main office starting on Monday, September 19. All forms must be submitted to the ISA main office by Friday, October 14, 2022 for approval. Students will not be able to purchase a ticket for an off-campus guest until the request is approved by ISA Administration, and tickets will not be sold at the door. For more information please contact Student Council Sponsor Lucinda Castro at lcastr@neisd.net

A reminder to our students who participate in UIL extracurricular activities that the UIL eligibility check deadline for the first six weeks was Friday, September 16, at 4:30 p.m. Students not passing a class will lose UIL eligibility at the end of this week. However, because of the honors or advanced placement level of some courses, students may be able to submit an eligibility waiver. Waivers must be picked up in the ISA main office beginning Monday, September 19, completed and submitted to Mr. Magadance by Friday, September 23. Please contact Mr. Magadance at smagad@neisd.net with questions!

Finally, we would like to remind families that our next early release day of the school year is next Tuesday, September 27, 2022, and students will be released at 2:00 p.m.

Have a great week!

Sincerely,

Steve Magadance and the ISA Faculty
