Community Update for September 10

Dear ISA Families,

The second week of September is here, and we all hope some cooler weather is close behind!

Beginning on Monday, September 11th, ISA will host PSAT/SAT preparation sessions in Reading and Math. Here is the schedule:

  • Reading (Mondays 4:20 p.m. to 5:20 p.m.) in room S-102

  • Math (Wednesdays 4:20 p.m. to 5:20 p.m.) in room S-103

Sessions will focus on skills and items students can expect to see on the PSAT and SAT, and we encourage 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students to attend. Ninth grade students will be accommodated if space is available and everyone is encouraged to join the Google Classroom for practice resources. Click HERE for the Google Classroom join code!

On Tuesday, September 12th, ISA Seniors will have their first on-campus opportunity with Prestige Portraits for cap & gown yearbook photos. Seniors have signed up through Ms. Prado’s class. If a senior is unable to take advantage of Tuesday’s opportunity, families can schedule a free yearbook portrait session with Prestige at their studio. This FLIER has details about how to schedule your senior’s session! There will be one more on-campus opportunity on November 6, 2023.

On Wednesday, September 13th, ISA welcomes a group of students visiting from Darmstadt, Germany and other European cities to campus! Thank you to all of the ISA students who signed up to host our guests on Wednesday! We invite ISA students in all grade levels to submit THIS form to express their interest in being an ISA ambassador for events in the near future. One scheduled opportunity is highlighted below:

  • Wednesday, October 11, 2023 - ISA will host school leaders from the International Studies Schools Network (ISSN) from across the United States. We are looking for students interested in helping ISSN leaders navigate the campus and provide student perspectives about Global Competency.

This Wednesday, September 13, the MUNSA XXVIII Secretariat will host the first NGO fundraiser of the year benefiting this year’s designated NGO the Children's Bereavement Center. Join the secretariat at Willie’s (15801 San Pedro Ave., 78232) from 4:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Proceeds from the event will help support the sole provider of grief support programs for children through young adulthood in South Texas.

The next ISA Amigos Board meeting will be held this Thursday, September 14, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. in the ISA in the Flex Space (S-103). ISA families still have opportunities to support the ISA Amigos’ primary mission of supporting student travel experiences, field trips, and teacher appreciation by making a donation to the ISA Globie Fund. Visit the ISA Amigos’ Square Site or at this URL: https://isa-amigos.square.site/ for links! This meeting is open to all and is a great way to meet other ISA parents and learn about the great things happening at ISA!

On Thursday, the Amigos will be planning for our annual 9th Grade Garage Sale, and we need your help! SAVE THE DATE for Saturday, September 30, 2023, and find a way below to participate in this event that directly benefits our 9th grade travel experience to Houston, Texas! How can you help?

  • JOIN THE COMMITTEE: Garage Sale Committee Chairs, Sarah Larson and Angi Aramburu, are forming a committee for the 9th Grade Garage Sale Event! If you are interested in serving on this committee, please contact them at sarahc82777@gmail.com OR angiaramburu@gmail.com.

  • VOLUNTEER: We need volunteers to receive donations after school from 4:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. on Friday, September 29, 2023 and to set up, work, and clean up on the day of the sale 7:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Students will get service hours!
Sign up HERE or paste this URL into your browser: https://rb.gy/0jg2h.

  • DONATE ITEMS: If your family has items you would like to donate to the garage sale, now is also a great time to begin to gather these items! Household items and appliances; tools; toys; garden items and equipment, furniture, and gently used shoes have been popular in the past. However, please refrain from donations of clothing, books and outdated technology. ALL ITEMS NEED TO BE DROPPED OFF FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 29 FROM 4:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

  • BIG ITEM PICKUP: We can use a few trucks to pick up large donation items on Friday, September 29. Sign-up above!

Looking ahead, the LEE/ISA/NESA/STEM Campus invites families to join us on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, for PTSA Back-to-School Night! This is a great evening to learn more about the campus PTSA, join the PTSA, and experience your student’s daily schedule!

Looking ahead to next month, on Saturday, October 7, 2023, the LEE/ISA/NESA/STEM will celebrate our At Last We Meet Homecoming Dance from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the Littleton Gymnasium! Tickets will be available for purchase during the week of September 18th and cost $20 through September 29th. Beginning on October 2 and through October 6, ticket prices rise to $25 and NO TICKETS WILL BE SOLD AT THE DOOR!

Finally, we wanted to end this update with a few reminders:

  • We continued to receive the CEP eligibility campus family survey forms distributed in late August. CEP helps us ensure that all students are eligible to receive free breakfast and lunch at school daily. Thank you to families who have already returned this important survey! Surveys can be returned to the ISA Main Office. If you have not seen this form, please take time to ask your student about this important survey!

  • We want to remind parents/guardians who visit campus to remember to check-in at the LEE attendance office to receive a visitor’s badge. If you might be signing out your student remember we have THIS form that can reduce wait time!

  • NEISD is interested in knowing how we are doing! Click THIS link to take an extremely short survey.

Have a wonderful week!

Sincerely,

Steve Magadance and the ISA Faculty
