Community Update for September 8

Dear ISA Families,

The second week of September is here! Recent rains and cooler weather have been a nice respite from the summer heat!

On October 2nd, ISA 9th, 10th, and 11th graders will have the opportunity to sit for administrations of the PSAT/NMSQT and ISA 12th graders may have the opportunity to sit for the ACT on October 23rd! Students and families can learn more about the PSAT/SAT/ACT upcoming dates, services, and events from our campus CCMR Specialist, Paul Goodwin, HERE!

Beginning Monday, September 9th, ISA will host support sessions to prepare for the PSAT this year! ISA will also post online resources through a Google Classroom available to all students.

Here is the schedule:

  • Reading (Mondays 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.) in room S-103

  • Math (Wednesdays 9/11 & 9/18 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.) AND (Tuesdays 9/24 & 10/1) in room S-103

Sessions will focus on skills and items students can expect to see on the PSAT and SAT, and we encourage 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students to attend. Ninth grade students will be accommodated if space is available and everyone is encouraged to join the Google Classroom for practice resources. Click HERE for the Google Classroom join code!

On Thursday during Advisory, ISA juniors will visit with representatives from Jostens to learn about ordering a class ring! Order can be submitted on-campus during all lunches on Tuesday, September 17, 2024!

The next ISA Amigos Board meeting will be held this Thursday, September 12, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. in the ISA in the Flex Space (S-103). We encourage attendees to park in the visitor’s parking lot in front of the LEE Main Building. ISA families still have opportunities to support the ISA Amigos’ primary mission of supporting student travel experiences, field trips, and teacher appreciation by making a donation to the ISA Globie Fund. Visit the ISA Amigos’ Square Site or at this URL: https://rb.gy/f0177m for links! This meeting is open to all and is a great way to meet other ISA parents and learn about the great things happening at ISA!

The first opportunity to help with a teacher appreciation event is this Friday, September 13th when the Amigos plan to prepare lunch for ISA teachers! If you are interested in supporting this event, you can sign-up HERE!

On Thursday, the Amigos will be planning for our annual 9th Grade Garage Sale, and we need your help! SAVE THE DATE for Saturday, September 28, 2024, and find a way below to participate in this event that directly benefits our 9th grade travel experience to Houston, Texas! How can you help?

  • JOIN THE COMMITTEE: Garage Sale Committee Chairs, Rubina Pantoja and Carrie Jowers are forming a committee for the 9th Grade Garage Sale Event! If you are interested in serving on this committee, please contact them at rubina.pantoja@gmail.com OR carrie.jowers@gmail.com.

  • VOLUNTEER: We need volunteers to receive donations after school from 4:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. on Friday, September 27, 2024, and to set up, work, and clean up on the day of the sale 7:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Students will get service hours!
Sign up HERE or paste this URL into your browser: https://rb.gy/cszxbm.

  • DONATE ITEMS: If your family has items you would like to donate to the garage sale, now is also a great time to begin to gather these items! Household items and appliances; tools; toys; garden items and equipment, furniture, and gently used shoes have been popular in the past. Again this year, we are accepting donations of clothing that will be donated to Goodwill. ALL ITEMS NEED TO BE DROPPED OFF FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 27th FROM 4:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

  • BIG ITEM PICKUP: We can use a few trucks to pick up large donation items on Friday, September 27th. Sign-up above!

On Friday, September 13th, ISA sophomores will attend the first field trip of the school year when they travel to The Meadows Center for Water and the Environment! Sophomores should plan for an outdoor experience by wearing sunscreen, hats, sunglasses, tennis shoes, and bringing water! Families should submit travel permission forms to the Sophomore Team and check with teachers about other equipment needed for the trip

The MUNSA XXIX Secretariat is hosting two September fundraisers. This Friday and Saturday, September 13th & 14th, the Secretariat invites the ISA Community to visit the Novica Impact Marketplace and to join us at Freddy’s Frozen Custard on September 23rd. This year’s fundraising efforts will benefit MUNSA XXIX designated NGO The Lemonade Circle which focuses on empowering young women through civic engagement, leadership development, and community outreach!

Looking ahead, on Tuesday, September 17th, ISA Seniors will have their first on-campus opportunity with Prestige Portraits for cap & gown yearbook photos. Seniors have signed up through Ms. Prado’s class. If a senior is unable to take advantage of Tuesday’s opportunity, families can schedule a free yearbook portrait session with Prestige at their studio! This FLIER has details about how to schedule your senior’s session! There will be one more on-campus opportunity on October 29, 2024.

The LEE/ISA/NESA/STEM Campus invites families to join us on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, for PTSA Back-to-School Night! This is a great evening to learn more about the campus PTSA, join the PTSA, and experience your student’s daily schedule!

LEE Allied Campus Theater (ACT) is preparing their first production of the year! We invite the community to buy tickets for “The Bugs” presented on Friday, September 20th at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, September 21st, at 2:00 p.m. in the LEE PAC Auditorium

Shuttle Smart Tags are Coming:

This month, students eligible for shuttle transportation to and from ISA will be issued a Smart Tag ID Card. Students will be required to swipe the ID card when they enter and exit NEISD shuttle buses. When ISA receives our set of Smart Tags, we will distribute them to students. Families can learn more about Smart Tag HERE and Register the App HERE!

Finally, we continue to receive the CEP eligibility campus family survey forms distributed in late August. CEP helps us ensure that all students are eligible to receive free breakfast and lunch at school daily. THANK YOU to families who have already returned this important survey- ALL families are encouraged to do so! Surveys can be returned to the ISA Main Office. If you have not seen this form, please take time to ask your student or contact the ISA Main Office for assistance!

Have a wonderful week!

Sincerely,

Steve Magadance and the ISA Faculty
