Community Update for August 28
Dear ISA Families,
Tomorrow we will reach the last Monday in August and begin the third full week of the 2022-2023 academic year! The rhythms of the school year are becoming more familiar and consistent. The traffic in the hallways is less erratic and more intentional as students transition between classes. Certainly, there are still as many bumps in the road as there are moments of joy that come with being together. I am proud of the hard work and patience on display from teachers, students, and families during the first thirteen days of school!
On Tuesday, August 30, 2022, school will end at 2:00 p.m. for district-wide teacher professional learning. Students meet in all of their classes during a shortened Bell Schedule. Local and Shuttle bus transportation is scheduled to depart campus beginning at 2:10 p.m. The next early release day of the school year is scheduled for Tuesday, September 27, 2022!
On Wednesday, August 31, Lifetouch will be on campus to take pictures for all four grade levels. Families will be able to order photos for 9th, 10th, and 11th graders using the school code: EVTR3XMJX. ISA Seniors will also participate in photo day for the purpose of receiving a campus ID. Students can expect to get their photograph taken during the following classes on Wednesday:
9th grade through Biology with Suzeth Ramirez
10th grade through English II with Dana Lopez and Stephanie Gredell
11th grade through AP Physics I with Jesus Cantu
12th grade through AP English IV with Betsy Gorski
The campus will host a photo make-up day on Friday, October 21, 2022.
Again this year, ISA students will enjoy college preparation and guidance support from the San Antonio Education Partnership (SAEP). ISA is pleased to welcome back Ms. Joyce Nawara. We invite students and families to learn more about Ms. Nawara HERE and to read more about the SAEP Program HERE. Our Campus CCMR Specialist works closely with Ms. Nawara to help ISA students explore post-secondary education options. Part of this exploration includes meeting with admissions counselors from colleges and universities across the country. THESE institutions have been confirmed for visits to campus in September. As additional visits are scheduled check the ISA Calendar for upcoming on-campus visits. These college visits are open to ALL students!
The ISA Amigos have received questions from families who would still like to donate to the Amigos’ Annual Appeal. Families can support the mission of the ISA Amigos with a contribution at the ISA Amigos Square Site or at this URL: https://isa-amigos.square.site/. More information about the annual appeal can be found HERE. The next ISA Amigos Board meeting will be held at ISA on Thursday, September 8, 2022, at 6:00 p.m.
In a separate email last week, ISA Families received information about a student technology interest survey. Survey information in English and Spanish is linked, and this survey will remain open until 4:30 p.m. on September 6, 2022.
Last week, NEISD’s PTSA, published information about this year’s PTSA Reflections Contest. Open to all LEE/ISA/NESA/STEM students, the Reflections Contest is a great way to celebrate the creativity of our students! ISA would like to encourage ISA families to join our Campus PTSA! THIS flier has information about how you can join and other information about connecting with this organization that benefits the entire community.
Looking ahead, members of the MUNSA XXVII Secretariat have been hard at work preparing for one of the largest student run Model United Nations conferences in the United States. Part of this preparation includes raising funds to benefit this year’s designated NGO the YWCA. MUNSA will host the first fundraiser of the year at Chipotle (438 NW Loop 410, Ste. 101) on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Proceeds from the event will help provide legal and medical services to families in the San Antonio Community. Online orders for pick-up are eligible for this fundraising event, and MUNSA staff will be onsite to celebrate the event. Check THIS flier for more details!
In preparation for the October on-campus PSAT and SAT administrations, ISA will be offering in-person tutoring opportunities in September! Watch this weekly update for dates. Students interested in resources are invited to join our Google Classroom using the join code: uy7apv2.
Information about the NEISD Exam Exemption Policy for 2022-2023 is out! An important difference to this year’s practice from the previous two years will be a return to the inclusion of a student’s attendance in the eligibility criteria. Key pieces of the policy of which to be aware:
Attendance data prior to August 22, 2022, will not be included in the eligibility criteria for First Semester Exam Exemptions,
Absences due to COVID-19, will not count against a student to determine eligibility, and
Absences due to illness--documented as “X”--that might eliminate a student from consideration may be appealed, and ISA would like to encourage families to continue to keep students home if they are not feeling well.
Finally, Friday, August 26, 2022, marked the end of the three-week grading period. Progress reports for this period will be available in Skyward: Family Access by Friday, September 2! Additionally, there will be no school next Monday, September 5, in observance of the Labor Day holiday. We look forward to seeing students in the hallways again on Tuesday, September 6.
Have a great week!
Steve Magadance and the ISA Faculty
