Community Update for August 21

Dear ISA Families,

This past week, the Texas Education Agency released district and campus accountability ratings. We are pleased to share that ISA has earned an “A” rating, and families can read more about what goes into this rating HERE. We believe that this honor is a testament to ISA’s unique approach to learning and community, and we appreciate the trust and support that ISA families extend each day to benefit all of our students. Congratulations, ISA!

The first full week of school with teachers and students continued to lay the foundations for this year’s learning and included getting to know each other, building relationships, and defining the expectations they hold for themselves and for each other! We know this effort can create a safe and intellectually stimulating learning environment for all of our students!

Last week, NEISD Management Information Services sent “Welcome Back Packets” information electronically through Skyward. This digital packet will be sent once again this year! NEISD’s Management Information Services will email the primary guardian of each ISA student with a link to the Digital Welcome Back Packet. The packet will be available in Skyward: Family Access for two (2) weeks to complete the packet.

Below is the list of forms that will be available in the digital packet:

  • FERPA

  • Student Registration Update

  • Student/Parent Handbook Notice and Acknowledgement

  • Family Survey

  • Communications Student Media Release

  • NEEF

  • Military Connected

  • Title IX

These electronic forms will continue to be available until Friday, August 26, 2022.

Mr. Magadance and Mrs. Gauna have been visiting grade level team classes to share familiar and new information about NEISD and campus guidelines and expectations. 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students have received THIS presentation, and ISA seniors will see this information on August 25 during Advisory! We would like to highlight a few items from the presentation for families:

  • All NEISD campuses are closed and students may not leave campus without permission from a parent or guardian,

  • Please continue to contact the ISA Main Office when students need to be signed out and submit doctor notes as soon as possible,

  • LEE High School is implementing a Tardy Round-up initiative to reduce instances of tardiness and absenteeism beginning Monday, August 22, 2022.

If you have questions about the information contained in the presentation please contact us at smagad@neisd.net or dgauna@neisd.net

At the end of the week, ISA received information about the NEISD Exam Exemption Policy for 2022-2023. An important difference to this year’s practice from the previous two years will be a return to the inclusion of a student’s attendance in the eligibility criteria. Key pieces of the policy of which to be aware:

  • Attendance data prior to August 22, 2022, will not be included in the eligibility criteria for First Semester Exam Exemptions,

  • Absences due to COVID-19, will not count against a student to determine eligibility, and

  • Absences due to illness--documented as “X”--that might eliminate a student from consideration may be appealed, and ISA would like to encourage families to continue to keep students home if they are not feeling well.

If you have questions about the Exam Exemption policy, please contact us at smagad@neisd.net or dgauna@neisd.net.

NEISD’s PTSA, shared information about this year’s PTSA Reflections Contest. Open to all LEE/ISA/NESA/STEM students, the Reflections Contest is a great way to celebrate the creativity of our students! We also encourage ISA families to join our Campus PTSA! THIS flier has information about how you can join and other information about connecting with this organization that benefits the entire community.

Looking ahead, August 26, 2022, the LEE High School football program will open their 2022-2023 season. As the team prepares for the season, they have also committed to participate in the Peanut Butter Bowl. ISA invites our community to participate by donating jars of peanut butter or by making an online donation at the link in the previous sentence. Peanut Butter donations can be dropped off in the ISA Main Office beginning on Monday, August 22, 2022!

The first early release day of the school year is scheduled for Tuesday, August 30, 2022. We remind families that school will be released at 2:00 p.m. on August 30.

On Wednesday, August 31, Lifetouch will be on campus to take pictures for all four grade levels. Families will be able to order photos for 9th, 10th, and 11th graders using the school code: EVTR3XMJX. ISA Seniors will also participate in photo day for the purpose of receiving a campus ID. Students can expect to get their photograph taken during the following classes on August 31:

  • 9th grade through Biology with Suzeth Ramirez

  • 10th grade through English II with Dana Lopez and Stephanie Gredell

  • 11th grade through AP Physics I with Jesus Cantu

  • 12th grade through AP English IV with Betsy Gorski

Finally, ISA 9th, 10th, and 11th graders will have the opportunity to sit for administrations of the PSAT/NMSQT and ISA 11th and 12th graders may have the opportunity to sit for the SAT again this year! Information about PSAT/NMSQT and SAT Administration is available HERE! ISA Students have also begun the registration process for AP Exams. Information about registration and fees is available HERE! If you have questions about these opportunities for students, please contact our campus CCMR specialist, Carin Schramm, at cschra@neisd.net

Have a wonderful week!

Sincerely,

Steve Magadance and the ISA Faculty
