HEB Camp Field Trip
My name is Jaeleen Castro and I am one of the Outdoor Adventure teachers here at Churchill High School. Each year the students in our Outdoor Adventure classes have the oppurtunity to attend the H.E. Butt Foundation Camp in Leakey, Texas. This camp is free for educational groups and is an amazing opportunity for our students to use their knowledge and skills learned in Outdoor PE in a real-world setting.
In addition to Churchill students and staff attending, a group of students and teachers from each of our Northeast ISD high schools, North East ISD PE specialists, and a Northeast swim coach (lifeguard) and athletic trainer will also attend as chaperones. As much as we would love to take all students, we are only alloted ten slots for students who have shown excellent participation and interest in their Outdoor Adventure PE class. The field trip is a three-day overnight trip in cabins on the HEB foundation property. These days will be “school business” and will not go against the students’ absences.
The students have been informed of the criteria for the selection process for the field trip. Any students interested will receive a packet in class and will have to turn it in by the designated due date. As stated eariler, we are only allowed ten students out of all four Outdoor Adventure classes taught each semester so the slots will be given to the first ten students who turn the permission packet in.
