Special Delivery!

Fridays are busy at Stone Oak Elementary School’s Bobcat Bistro.

That’s because the Alternative Learning Experience (ALE) students who run the bistro have to double-check their orders, prepare the ice-cold drinks and make their deliveries to Stone Oak staff around campus.

The Bobcat Bistro is a really innovative teaching tool.

The students are responsible for keeping track of inventory, making change, packing the orders up and ultimately delivering them around campus.

“It helps the kids work on life skills in a real-life setting that they can later apply to a job down the road,“ said ALE teacher Elise Full. “They do math, economics, there is reading involved, lots of speech, lots of life skills.”

Brazos loves making deliveries in their highly decorated shopping cart.

But on this day, the cart was giving him trouble.

It was “out of gas.”

But once he got it “filled up,” he was ready to make deliveries.

When Brazos makes it to the office, he rings the bell and announces, “Special Delivery.”

Snacks and drinks are donated to the program.

One more bonus of the bistro is all the profits go directly back into the classroom. So far, they have purchased fine motor skills toys and an area rug that encourages the students with their speech and other real-life skills.

If you would like to donate to the Bobcat Bistro, you can drop off snacks and drinks at the school or check out their Amazon wishlist here.
