Celebrating our Speech Language Pathologists
North East ISD provides our students with more than just an academic education. We also offer our students and community the valuable tools and resources to succeed inside and outside the classroom.
Heather Hernandez is one of our Speech Language Pathologists (SLP). She works alongside SLP Mitzi Hardeman at Woodstone Elementary School. Hernandez has been serving our students for seven years. She works with teachers and parents to develop plans to help students become successful in overcoming obstacles with their speech.
“Parents are often surprised to learn we offer these services here and during the school day,” said Hernandez. “Parents think they may need to do this after work or somewhere else, but we have a great team here to help them.”
Our District currently has 81 SLPs and SLP Assistants serving just over 4,000 students. In addition, NEISD also has an Educational Audiologist available to perform comprehensive hearing evaluations on students to determine the impact that their hearing loss may be having on them in the classroom.
“Working with this team is amazing,” said Hernandez. “I get to work with the librarian, other speech pathologists, physical therapists, the District audiologist, the teachers, the administration. We are such a big team. NEISD makes it so easy for us to work with so many people at different levels to get the best outcomes for our students.”
May is Better Hearing and Speech Month, and today is National Speech Pathologist Day. So thank you, NEISD SLPs. It’s often said, “It takes a village to raise a child.” And NEISD Speech Language Pathologists are just one part of the village that can have a huge impact on the success of our students.
