Making the most of MAC UP

Sophia Medrano holds the NEISD way sign with text

Sophia Medrano is a junior at MacArthur High School and a freshman at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). How is this possible? She’s enrolled in our MAC UP program for future teachers.

“It takes a lot of pressure off. I’ve worried a lot less about things and it’s nice to know I’m going to start college as a sophomore. It’s a good opportunity that MacArthur High School and NEISD is giving to students who want to be teachers.”

MAC UP is a unique, cost-saving option for students interested in becoming educators. Thanks to North East ISD’s partnership with UTSA, our students can graduate with 50+ college credit hours, save up to 93% of college tuition costs through dual enrollment courses and get free transportation between MacArthur and the UTSA campus.

Sophia remembers learning about MAC UP as an eighth grader at Tex Hill Middle School. As soon as she heard about the program, she knew she wanted to apply. Three years later, she knows she made the right decision.

“I always liked helping the younger kids through PALS and National Honor Society so that experience is what led me to want to join the MAC UP program. It’s been a great fit for me. The classes are fun, and the teachers work with you because they know you’re taking high school and college classes.”

Join us for a MAC UP Open House event on Wednesday, Jan. 25, from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. at MacArthur High School to learn more about our program and partnership with the University of Texas San Antonio (UTSA). Visit neisd.net/macup to learn more about the program.

Applications to join MAC UP and other NEISD magnets are currently open. The deadline to apply is Feb. 6, 2023. Visit neisd.net/magnetprograms to apply today.
