Brahma Bash is a beloved tradition at MacArthur High School.
Every year, MacArthur PALS plan and host the school-wide festival formerly known as MactoberFest. Students, parents, staff and community members join together for a night of games, food, music, prizes, and fun.
Before the festival, MacArthur PALS selected a local organization to receive their fundraising proceeds.
“Brahma Bash is an important event because it gives everyone at school a chance to come together and have fun,” said junior PALS student Erik Ferman Citalan. “It is also an important event because it’s a great opportunity to raise and donate the money we receive.”
This year, PALS raised $3,000 to donate to Barrington Neighbors Creative HeARTS Program, a non-profit organization that serves the youth of our community. Volunteers, including MacArthur PALS student Chloe Grams, run a free children’s art camp that provides a safe space for kids to explore their creativity, along with two meals and a snack per day.
Kim Youngblood, Executive Director of Barrington Neighbors, recently visited the PALS class to share more about her organization. They offer various programs, including after-school tutoring, health and wellness education, and youth leadership training. The organization relies on donations from the community to continue these programs and supply food and materials to attendees. MacArthur PALS is honored to support such an important organization making a difference in the community.
“As PALS, donating is important to us because we love to help those in our community and give back to a good cause,” said junior PALS student Madison Giardino. “We’re happy to donate to Creative Hearts because they’re a non-profit organization that doesn’t have as much outside income as others. They help so many kids and I hope that the proceeds from Brahma Bash will help them grow!”
