What do you want to be when you grow up?

Some students know early on what career goals they want to set for themselves. For others, it takes time to discover the right path.

North East ISD students have a lifeline when it comes to planning for the future. Every high school has a College, Career and Military Readiness (CCMR) Specialist to help them navigate the big decisions that are made while choosing what path to take after graduation.

Ashley Wilks is the CCMR Specialist at Reagan High School. She taught Business Education and Career Prep classes at Reagan before stepping into her new role in 2020.

“When this position opened up it seemed like it would be a really good fit for me, and it has been.”

Wilks is a trusted resource for every family. She helps guide students and parents with scholarships, application deadlines, grants, loans, college entrance exams and everything in between. If you’re feeling overwhelmed and don’t know where to start, Wilks says it’s important to remember there’s no one-size-fits-all answer.

“Everyone has a different family dynamic, so every situation is different. Start thinking about what kind of college or career experience you’re looking for, what you can afford and if your major is being offered there.”

It’s never too early to start thinking about life after NEISD. If you’re looking for direction, guidance and resources, join us at our College and Career Expo on Wednesday, Nov. 16, at Freeman Coliseum Expo Hall 2 from 5:30 – 8 p.m.

Come speak with college and university representatives and career representatives for free. There will also be information available on our wide selection of magnet programs, AVID program and Advanced Academics. NEISD is providing two shuttle service options for families to attend this event, with buses departing from Blossom Athletic Center.

To get in touch with your CCMR Specialist, contact your high school counseling office.
