Auto Fest keeps the wheels turning in NEISD

On May 19, the North East ISD Career and Technology Education Center hosted the Third Annual Auto Fest.  While this event provides NEISD employees an opportunity to have services performed on their vehicles, it also gives automotive students the opportunity to gain real-world experiences and practice skills learned in class.  Fourteen NEISD automotive students were on hand to perform oil changes, tire checks and rotation, alignment checks, and 25-point vehicle checks.  These students serviced approximately 20 vehicles from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Students took turns working in groups supervised by NEISD automotive instructors and were able to perform a variety of tasks.  Automotive instructor, Juan Martinez, shared some insight on the event.

“This has become an important event for us,” said Martinez. “We spend the school year focused on the curriculum, and students do not often see the other side of this business. Auto Fest gives students a chance to experience what it’s like to work in a real automotive shop.”

NEISD Instructional Technology Specialist, Sue Carlson, enjoyed her Auto Fest experience stating, “Auto Fest was awesome! The students were so knowledgeable and professional; better than dealerships or professional garages I have been to. Everyone was so friendly and polite and answered all my questions.  They made my car happy!”
