Tejeda welcomes Girl Scouts and PTA
Members of Girl Scout Troop 869 spent some of their time over the winter break to help Tejeda Middle School Timberwolves lead the pack to health. The troop, with support from the Tejeda Timberwolf PTA, gathered resources and supplies and worked together to bring gardens to the Timberwolf campus.
Cadettes came up with a plan and organized, developed and constructed three raised garden beds with the help of troop leader, Deanna Mazzocco.
“Cadettes from Girl Scout Troop 869 enjoyed working on this project," said Mazzocco. "It was special that in addition to moms, dads were excited to join their daughters to complete this project. They always enjoy working as a team to brainstorm different ideas of how to accomplish their goal, compromising in order to pick a plan and then executing their plan. It was very rewarding to see what their hard work could accomplish!”
After the weather warmed up again, the cadettes returned to the garden beds to plant potatoes, strawberries and celery. Fertilizer and mulch were added and the beds were watered. Everyone is looking forward to harvesting the produce in a couple of months and sharing it with the Timberwolf campus.
"It felt good to help the Tejeda campus and it is important to know where your food comes from and this project taught us to think about that," said Karina, 6th grade KSAT student.
Girl Scout Troop 869 will help support the garden and encourage Timberwolves to participate and care for the garden area and think about the process of growing and caring for food.
