North Central Rotary donates kits benefiting school-age parents

group photo of staff and rotary The North Central Rotary Club made a visit to the Family Support Services Department with boxes in hand on Oct. 18. The boxes were filled with Safety 1st 11-piece Healthcare kits for students in the School-Age Parenting Program. The kits will be included in “Baby Boxes” from the Baby Box Co.

North East ISD is the first district in Texas to be an active Baby Box distribution site to help prevent infant sleeping death and SIDs. The student or community member who requests a box must first complete a short instructional lesson that includes a test to ensure comprehension. Once they enroll in the Baby Box University for the test, they then have access to numerous online parenting programs and discounts for newborn supplies. These kits provide sturdy, industry supported caregiver items that every new parent needs in the formative months.

“Family Support Services would not be able to provide the level of student/parent services without the support of organizations such as the North Central Rotary Club,” said Tyler Shoesmith, Director of Family Support Services. “They firmly aligned with our program goals of providing safe-to-sleep Baby Boxes and supplementing them with quality items that ensure that new parents have what they need to care for healthy newborns.”

In the short time that the School-Age Parenting program has been a distribution site, the staff has delivered nearly 40 Baby Boxes to students and community members. It is now part of the department’s enrollment process. Learn more about NEISD’s School-Age Parenting program here.
