The First Lady recognizes Nimitz students

Students watching virtual ceremony with Dr. Jill Biden

The Nimitz Middle School Junior Cadets received some words of encouragement from First Lady Dr. Jill Biden Wednesday.

During a virtual ceremony, the Nimitz Student 2 Student program was named one of the top 3 teams in the world by the Military Child Education Coalition.

“Thank you for working so hard to meet every students’ needs,” said Dr. Biden. “You make life a little bit easier for our military-connected students and their families.”

The Student 2 Student program helps students from military families get connected when they move to a new school.

Dr. Biden ended her conversation with the students by telling them, “I know that your future is bright, and I can’t wait to hear about the wonderful things you will do this year.”

Student 2 Student Sponsor Commander Robert Gonzalez is retired Navy. He could not be prouder of his team and all they accomplished last year.

“This is worldwide, and we competed against a lot of schools, and this was our first year doing this program,” said Gonzalez. “These kids are superstars.”
