Dreams become reality through Design a Mermaid Tail Contest

Several North East ISD students made a splash and left their mark on the Mitchell Chang Foundation’s Design a Mermaid Tail Contest. Three of the five finalists are NEISD students: second-grader Carson and fifth-grader Ava of Wilderness Oak Elementary School, as well as fifth-grader Luke from Castle Hills Elementary School.

The winners were celebrated during a July 13th ceremony at the H-E-B at Wilderness Oak and Hardy Oak. The colorful designs from Carson, Luke and Ava will also be recreated as climbing mermaid tails at the H-E-B Mermaid Lagoon in Mitchell’s Landing.

Mitchell’s Landing will soon be the first free, all-accessible city park in San Antonio in Classen-Steubing Ranch Park. The Mitchell Chang Foundation exists to honor the life and memory of 3-year-old Mitchell Chang. Click here to learn more about the foundation.

Congratulations to Carson, Luke and Ava! Take a look at their designs below.
