Long-time teacher tries something new

Tuscany Heights Elementary School teacher Angelique Forsyth just finished her 20th year teaching. Well, almost finished. She decided to extend her school year by helping Harmony Hills Elementary School and Ridgeview Elementary School students get caught up and get ahead during summer school.

“I knew that I could help change lives in the short amount of time,” said Forsyth. “It is definitely challenging when the alarm goes off, and I ask myself, ‘why am I here?’ And then, when I come here, it is all rewarding watching the students grow. I can already see an improvement.”

The mornings may be a challenge, but Forsyth likes a little challenge. That’s why after 20 years of teaching, she’s moving out of the classroom and into the gym. She will be teaching PE at Tejada Middle School next year. The new challenge is also giving her a chance to combine her passions of teaching and fitness.

“I am a fitness instructor. I teach Yoga and Pilates. Health and wellness improve academics,” said Forsyth. “I feel that mind, body and spirit all work together. I think I can be an advocate in health and wellness for students in their academics. The more well-rounded students are, the better they are going to be academically.”

Angelique Forsyth is a perfect example of how to embrace new opportunities and see the value of summer school #theNEISDway.
