Churchill musicians shine at UIL State Mariachi Festival
Churchill High School’s Mariachi Orgullo group ranks among the best in Texas after a lively performance at the UIL State Mariachi Festival. The Chargers were one of 50 groups to perform at the state contest Friday, June 18.
Mariachi Orgullo received the First Division Award for their performance by receiving an overall average of “one” from a panel of judges. “One” is the highest score a judge can give.
“I am so incredibly proud of these amazing students and what they’ve accomplished,” said Jason Thibodeaux, Churchill Director of Orchestras. “During all of the difficulties this year, they continued work and move forward. With their hard work this year they have created a new tradition of excellence for the Churchill Mariachi Ensemble.”
Mariachi Orgullo began at Churchill in October 2020. Its rapid success is a testament to the commitment of its students and instructors.
Congratulations, Mariachi Orgullo!
