Taking learning to new heights this summer

Dozens of Jackson Middle School students took part in a summer recreation camp to kick off their summer plans. They got to take on a massive rock wall, learn new games and just be kids.

“A lot of this is just socializing,” said Jackson Head Coach Will Holland. “You don’t see kids on their phones or sitting out; they are all out here socializing having a good time.”

This camp also gives incoming sixth-graders a chance to learn more about the school they will be attending next year since this camp is open to the incoming class.

And while this summer camp is fun, it’s vital to North East ISD’s mission to give students Social Emotional Learning along with their academic education.

“This is really important,” said Holland. “We had a kid who was virtual all year, but he showed up on the first day of camp, and I was just so happy to see him—getting the kids out here playing. It’s just part of being a kid in summer. It’s one of those memories we always have.”
