Summer learning is back and bigger than ever
Summer learning is back and bigger than ever at North East ISD. Thousands of students reported to class on Monday, June 7, as the first session of summer school kicked off at 28 campuses. Buses rolled into the drop-off lane, cafeterias served free breakfast and students filled hallways as teachers welcomed them into their classrooms.
Teachers like Carlos Gutierrez at Regency Place Elementary School are excited to help students catch up and get ahead.
“It’s very important for us to make sure that the students continue to make progress and we still fill gaps that they might have in their education,” said Gutierrez. “We are going to make it fun and exciting for the students and make sure they learn something new.”
Options for NEISD summer learning expanded significantly this year. Summer school isn’t the only way students can make progress in the classroom. Summer camps and programs designed to help students in the subjects they are passionate about, such as art, robotics and coding, are available in June and July. As more and more cutting-edge summer learning opportunities become available, our teachers, staff and principals are ready to make a difference.
“I am very excited that we are back in person and have over 1,600 students enrolled at summer school,” said Michelle Castaneda, LEE Summer School Principal. “We have also hired an amazing staff to help bridge the learning gap and enrich these students with interactive lessons every day.”
