Camelot celebrates the life of a beloved Knight

It's a lesson no fifth-grader should have to learn.

Camelot Elementary School fifth grader Za’Miah Adame lost her life to cancer just one day before her fifth-grade graduation.

“We will always remember her as a brave knight who went into battle and never gave up,” said Camelot Principal Wilma Payne.

Miah was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in February of last year. She spent her fifth-grade year as a virtual student going through chemotherapy.

The end of year celebration turned into a bit of a celebration of life for Miah. She had attended Camelot since kindergarten. Every teacher she ever had made sure to attend what should have been her graduation ceremony.

The school was covered in yellow balloons. Friends, family and Camelot staff wore yellow, a color that came to represent Miah and hope.

Her family was honored with Miah’s Certificate of Completion and a safety patrol honor.

In previous conversations with Miah’s mother she said, “Camelot has not only been here emotionally but physically and financially. They have been very supportive since Princess Miah was diagnosed. I am thankful, and I love the staff at Camelot. They have always treated me and my babies like family.”

Her fellow fifth-graders ended their graduation ceremony by throwing up their caps and releasing yellow balloons in Miah’s honor.

Payne ended the celebration by saying, “May her life inspire all of us to fight the hardest battles that life brings our way with courage and strength as she did.”
