Strikes, Smiles and Celebrations

The Krueger Middle School gym became an Olympic arena for a day.

The Krueger Band played My Sharona as the Special Olympians made their way to the arena.

Students filled the stands as excitement filled the air.

Like the worldwide Olympics, there were opening ceremonies, and a saxophone solo of the National Anthem played as the athletes got ready for their first event.

A makeshift bowling alley was set up on one side of the gym; a basketball skills test was set up on the other.

There were referees, scorekeepers, Roosevelt High School cheerleaders, parents and many others watching with anticipation.

Six athletes competed and showed off their skills in front of a rowdy crowd that couldn’t get enough of their victories on the court.

Naiomy Cruz, Seve Torres, Michaela Torres, Emmanuel Melendez, Wyatt Brewer and Brawley Veltri put on quite the show knocking over pins and making shot after shot.

When it was over, and the medals and ribbons were handed out, Krueger Principal Cynthia Rubio thanked the athletes for everything they have brought to Krueger and the inspiration they give every day.
