Reagan Speech and Debate team earns two state titles

Reagan Speech and Debate team members hold their trophies

The Reagan High School Speech and Debate team ended another successful year with two state titles. The Rattlers competed at the virtual Texas Forensic Association (TFA) State Tournament in March. The competition took place through asynchronous recorded performances and synchronous, video-conferencing performances for the elimination rounds.

To compete at the TFA state tournament, students must qualify at multiple tournaments during the school year. At this culminating tournament, Reagan Speech and Debate earned two state championships. Senior Kayla Armbruster was named state champion in Dramatic Interpretation and Freshman Katie Eanes was named state champion in Poetry Interpretation. Sophomore Kathy He also earned second place in Informative Speaking.

Additional elimination round competitors included:

Semifinals: Kathy He in Humorous Interpretation;

Quarterfinals: Zaarah Azad and David Gutierrez in Cross-Examination Debate, Rian Magner and Claire Caven in Dramatic Interpretation, and Audrey Irwin in Humorous Interpretation;

Double-Octafinals: Nandika Kapur and Tristan Rios in Cross-Examination Debate.

Additional state qualifiers included Chase Stinson in Informative Speaking and Humorous Interpretation, Charles Muehlberger and Ryan Whalen and Tai Le and Rohan Vazir in Cross Examination Debate.

The individual success of the students of the Reagan Speech and Debate team led them to be named the Region 3 Sweepstakes winner for the second year in a row. Congratulations to Reagan Speech and Debate team!
