Perfect attendance through elementary, middle and high school is no easy feat. But Stephen Ross says he hasn’t missed a day of school in 13 years. His perfect attendance spans every day at Redland Oaks Elementary School, the STEM Academy at Nimitz Middle School and the STEM Academy at LEE High School.
His secret? Good health and a little luck.
“To put it really simply, I don’t really get sick. I just try my best to stay healthy.”
Stephen hopes to extend his perfect attendance streak next year at Texas State Technical College in Waco. His passion for science, technology, engineering and mathematics inspired him to pursue a career in avionics.
“I’ve always had an interest in planes ever since watching air shows when I was little,” said Stephen. “When I heard that STEM Academy has an engineering branch in the program I fell right into that. I want to work on engineering electronics for the plane, so for example, the flight controls in the cockpit.”
His passion for engineering got its wings at North East ISD. It’s also where Stephen discovered his love of music. He first picked up a bow in strings class at Nimitz and soon found a passion for the cello. He’s been a proud member of the LEE orchestra ever since.
As Stephen charts a future in the avionics field, he’ll never forget his STEM foundation at NEISD.
