Mystery reader surprises students at El Dorado

Nobody hugs a cactus.

That was the message today from Batman to the students at El Dorado Elementary School.

North East ISD’s Superintendent of Schools Dr. Sean Maika put on the Caped Crusader’s cowl to as part of the school’s Mystery Reader program.

“This event just adds that extra excitement to get kids motivated to read and show them how fun reading can be,” said El Dorado librarian Sarah Flores.

After reading Nobody Hugs a Cactus through ZOOM to the entire student body, Dr. Maika visited a dual-language classroom and read Bruce’s Big Move, a story about a bear named Bruce who was trying to get away from some annoying mice.

“These kinds of events are my favorite part of this job,” said Maika. “It feels great to get out the campuses and visit the students and see the teachers and librarians who have been and continue to do just an incredible job taking care of and teaching these kids.”
