Churchill wins state Speech and Debate championship

Churchill High School has another state title to its name. Senior Ralph Anderson and sophomore Natalie Stone are the new Policy Debate state champions. The duo won big at the UIL 6A Speech and Debate virtual tournament in March, beating out some of the best teams in Texas.

While Anderson and Stone claimed the title, their victory was a team effort.

“Every member of the Churchill Speech and Debate team played a role in winning this championship and these final results only serve to punctuate an amazing body of work that the team put together,” said Preston Stolte, Churchill Speech and Debate teacher. “Every member of this team embodied the four pillars of championship debating: teamwork, hard work, character, commitment.”

Churchill Speech and Debate competed at more than 50 tournaments between September and March. This is Churchill’s first UIL State Championship in Speech and Debate since 2010. This win also marks the first UIL State Championship the Chargers have won in any event since swimming won in 2012.

Congratulations, Ralph and Natalie!
