Colonial Hills is one of the healthiest schools in the nation

It takes time and effort to establish healthy habits, from eating fruit and vegetables to adding exercise into your daily routine. Embracing these healthy life choices is paying off for students, staff and teachers at Colonial Hills Elementary School.

The Alliance for a Healthier Generation recognized Colonial Hills with a 2020 National Healthy Schools Gold Award for the third time. Colonial Hills is the only Texas school to receive Gold status.

“The teachers, parents, students and staff at Colonial Hills recognize the critical role that health plays in learning,” said P.E. Coach Terri Pitts. “We’re honored to receive this national recognition for our dedication to supporting the well-being of students and staff, and remain steadfast in our commitment to fostering environments where all members of the school community can succeed.”

The Alliance for a Healthier Generation considers many factors while determining a bronze, silver or gold status. Each school has to maintain a number of healthy best practices, such as exceeding federal nutrition standards for school meals and snacks, offering breakfast daily, incorporating physical activity, implementing District wellness policies and, involving parents and community members in decision making.

Colonial Hills was evaluated on practices prior to COVID-19 school closures.

Congratulations to the entire Colonial Hills community!
