Roosevelt cadet instructor receives top honor

Marchantia Johnson receives award Roosevelt High School is proud of its dedicated and award-winning instructors, and recently yet another one of its educators was recognized with a very prestigious honor.

Master Sergeant Marchantia Johnson was presented with the U.S. Army’s National JROTC Instructor of the Year Award for her diligence and excellence as an instructor and mentor to her cadets at a ceremony on Thursday, Jan. 14.

This award is presented every year by the United States Army Cadet Command to the Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (JROTC) instructor who expresses the most exceptional dedication and leadership capabilities to his or her cadets, colleagues, and the teams and events hosted by the battalion.

She was selected for this honor from among more than 750 instructors across the country.

Completely caught off-guard and surprised, Johnson accepted the award surrounded by some of her biggest supporters. With her at the presentation was her immediate JROTC team CSM Ansley Harris and MAJ Jamelle Garner; Director of the Engineering and Technologies Academy Robert Lozano; Roosevelt High School Assistant Principal Joseph Olivarri; DAI Col. Robert Henson; SGM Ramon Lara, District Military Property Specialist SFC Lionel Brown, 5th BDE representatives Larry Haynes and Merl Fuchs, as well as the battalion staff cadets.

“I want to thank all the cadets and the instructors for making this possible,” said Johnson. “If it wasn’t for my cadets and the instructors who have helped me on the way, this wouldn’t be possible.”

Johnson was also presented with the Meritorious Public Service Medal for exhibiting the superior qualities and professionalism required to ensure success within the JROTC program.
