Discover how this Regency Place student flourishes in two languages

“I like to fly RC planes, I like history, I like to read, I like video games,” said Daniel Realpe.

Realpe is a third-grade dual language student at Regency Place Elementary School. He’s been a part of the bilingual programs at North East ISD since he was three.

“I really like to talk Spanish and English because sometimes I have friends at school that talk in Spanish and I have other ones who talk in English,” said Realpe. “What I really like is I can talk to some friends in English and other friends in Spanish.”

He enjoys the structure of having some classes in English and some classes in Spanish. He’s a native Spanish speaker, but his English is excellent. His education with NEISD has even had a profound impact on his father, who also is a native Spanish speaker.

“When you are an immigrant, and you need to learn a new language, It’s really hard, but Daniel helped me,” said Dany Realpe.”At Regency Place, he advanced a lot because his teachers help you speak Spanish really good. I just want to say we feel really proud of our son.”

One of the things they both agree on is how much reading in two languages has helped them. Daniel will read a book in English, then read the same book in Spanish. It helps him and his father learn the ins and out of the languages. Because of that, Daniel says the library at Regency Place is probably his favorite spot in the whole school.

“I really like the library. It’s so big. It has so many books in Spanish and English. It’s really awesome,” said Daniel. “Everything is super nice; everything is real organized. I love the library. It’s super incredible.”
