KSAT’s Tracy Thomas named AFA’s Teacher of the Year

Krueger School of Applied Technologies (KSAT) is more than a job for Tracy Thomas. She’s spent the last 16 years in her second home teaching Principles of Applied Engineering and sponsoring the Peer Assistance Leadership and Service (PALS) program. Rocketry is her passion and she’s made a career out of sharing that with the next generation of engineers and scientists.

While Thomas doesn’t teach for the accolades, the Air Force Association couldn’t help but note her commitment to her craft. On Wednesday, Nov. 18, she was recognized as the Alamo Chapter’s 2020 Teacher of the Year.

“I feel honored,” said Thomas. “I do it because I love it. It’s a blessing that I have kids who want to be here and have a passion for aerospace and rocketry. The program and the kids keep me coming back every year.”

Rocketry and aerospace are her passions, but this is an all-encompassing recognition for Thomas. She coaches Krueger’s UIL science team, assists with student launch projects and the American Rocketry Challenge. Thomas gives her all to KSAT because she believes in the program, its message and its students. She says it’s made a profound impact on her sons.

“Both of my boys have been through this program before going on to our magnet high schools,” said Thomas. “You just can’t beat the projects, the presentation skills, the trips or opportunities in this program.”

Congratulations Tracy!
