Presentation is a crucial aspect of floral design. The perfect arrangement is something that can only be achieved through practice. Students in North East ISD’s Agriscience Magnet Program (AMP) are well on their way to honing their skills after their first in-person design session. Madison High School junior Michelle Medina was one of 30 students who practiced in the AMP Arena during asynchronous learning time.

“This is the first day we’ve been able to come in and make our first floral arrangement,” said Medina. “We’ve watched Mr. Anderson do it virtually but this is the first time we’ve been able to try it ourselves. I’m more of a visual and hands-on learner so it feels good to be able to do it in person. It feels good to be back.”

Students wore masks and assembled designs on tables that were spread throughout the arena. The large space gave instructor Josh Anderson the freedom to walk students through their first design and oversee their first design. After the session, Anderson disinfected every tool, table and resource used by the students. Students who did not wish to participate in a group setting were able to pick up floral design kits to practice with at home.

AMP students with a passion for floral design have the opportunity to obtain the Texas Master Florist certification.
