Despite a global pandemic, the North East Educational Foundation raised $110,000 at the 15th annual Jerry Comalander’s Fore! The Kids Tournament held at Canyon Springs Golf Club on Sept. 25.

With social distancing and safety restrictions in place, a total of 148 golfers, representing 39 companies, joined forces to impact local education. Funds raised will directly benefit North East ISD teachers and students through innovative grants.

Before tee off, NEEF Executive Director Amy Lane and NEISD Superintendent Dr. Sean Maika thanked golfers for their support.

“In a crazy year, it is easy to step back and not do as much, so we really appreciate you coming out and supporting us,” Dr. Maika said.

He also recognized NEEF Golf Chair Kimberly Prater and the golf committee for their tireless work.

Prater was thrilled to see months of planning come to life.

“We are so excited to be able to have our event today, this golf tournament brings out so many donors for the District and the Foundation,” Prater said. “We were originally concerned that we would not be able to follow through with our tournament, but thankfully we were able to make it happen and it’s been a great success.”

She added that the tournament was made possible thanks to the golf committee and NEEF staff persevering and seeing it through to fruition.

New this year, the event featured an excavator ball drop sponsored by Joeris General Contractors. Dr. Maika operated the excavator and dropped a total of 339 golf balls bought by NEEF supporters. Beverly Baldwin’s golf ball landed closest to the pin and won her a $750 Visa gift card.

A big thank you to all of our sponsors and players for supporting us during a difficult time.
