Senior Spotlight: Johnson’s Makenzie Lampe

High school is a period of transition and growth for every student. Oftentimes it’s painful, but sometimes it leads you down the path you were destined to walk. Makenzie Lampe was in the midst of a painful health crisis the first time she walked the halls of Johnson High School. She battled severe stomach issues after being diagnosed and hospitalized with pancreatitis.

Returning to school was a daunting task for Makenzie, but she found purpose, strength and the flexibility to learn at her own pace at Johnson. She transitioned between half-days on campus and homebound learning because of lingering health issues, but she never let that discourage her.  She now hopes to enter the medical field to help people dealing with similar health issues.

“It wasn’t always easy, but I was determined to try my hardest in school,” said Lampe. “Fast forward to today, I’ve decided to pursue a career in the medical field. I aspire to become a pediatric gastroenterology physician assistant so I can help children overcome their gastro struggles.”

While setbacks and obstacles are a part of life, Makenzie has shown unwavering resilience. Johnson counselor Julie Metcalf is one of many educators on campus who have watched her grow into the person she is today.

“She always has the biggest smile on her face, huge hugs to share and a heart of gold,” said Metcalf. “Any day I get to see Makenzie is a fantastic day. Her genuine positivity is contagious. I can’t wait to watch her journey unfold as she will impact so many.”

Congratulations Makenzie!
