Johnson football team and Student Council team up to help families

When long lines started forming at the San Antonio Food Bank during the campus closure and city-wide stay at home order, the Johnson High school student council began working on a plan to help.

“We were bothered by this and wanted to help while still maintaining social distancing guidelines,” said Student Council sponsor, Kristine Rogers.

They contacted the food bank and got to work collecting donations. So far this month, they raised more than $5,500. Then, during the last day of school on Thursday, May 28, the Johnson football team put on their jerseys and masks to collect non-perishable food donations.

“When I heard the football team was doing a food donation and saw the date was close to the end of our campaign, I thought about taking a group photo to show that we are working together to give back,” said Rogers.

Working together to help their community, the football team and Student Council have provided more than 38,500 meals for people in need, showing their community how #NEISDcares.

Johnson Thank you
