#NEISDcares | Bulverde Creek students offer comfort during campus closure

Kendall

There’s a team of fourth- and fifth-graders at Bulverde Creek Elementary School who specialize in helping others when things drastically change. The group is called Anchored 4 Life, and they help students who are new to the school, moving away or are part of a military family dealing with deployment.

“We are finding new ways to keep the Anchored4Life spirit alive during this difficult time,” said Club Adviser, Melinda DeLeon.

But right now, this group has a new calling, providing encouragement and comfort to nearly everyone as we face difficulty and uncertainty during the coronavirus quarantine.

“Anchored 4 Life components are especially important right now since everyone is coping with transition, change and a temporary new way of life,” said Club Adviser, Chelsea Bussey.

The team continues their weekly meetings through Zoom, keeping them connected, and the positive ideas coming.

“Our team leaders continue to share positive messages, but now they are sending in pictures of their sidewalk chalk art that is then shared on the school Facebook page,” said DeLeon.

And while they are expanding their mission and helping others right now, their primary purpose remains. They continue to deliver moving kits to students who are not only dealing with quarantine but also moving to new homes and schools, although they have to do it a little bit differently.

“The kits were dropped off on the student’s front porch, and then our Anchored4Life team leader connects with the student on Zoom,” said DeLeon. “The family was very appreciative, and the contents of the kit will help the children as they transition to a new school and home!”

Positivity is essential right now. Fifth-grader Jillian Flores offers these suggestions for everyone growing a little weary of quarantine.

“I am staying positive by going outside, riding my bike with my family, coloring and doodling.”
