#NEISDcares | MacTEACH students continue to serve community

MacArthur High School students in the MacTEACH peer tutoring and outreach program are committed to finding a way to give back in a time of social distancing. MacTEACH tutors continue to serve the children of Oak Grove Elementary School with weekly virtual reading activities. Each tutor selects a children’s book to read and record from home before sharing it with elementary students.

MacTEACH PTSD Ambassadors continue their mission to advocate for mental health and issues related to military veterans and first responders dealing post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Students have organized Zoom meetings with veterans and first-responders associated with the Birdwell Foundation PTSD Support Group at San Antonio College's Victory Center.

“These kids are helping veterans, first responders and our community members during our nation’s coronavirus crisis,” said Mike Gonzales, Birdwell San Antonio Chapter Director. “At the same time, they are sharing their own experiences of isolation. It’s a win-win situation for all.”

Thank you MacTEACH for showing how #NEISDcares.
