Dr. Maika's Parent Message: March 20, 2020

NEISD Family,

This is a time of great uncertainty for all of us. I know stress and anxiety is high as we navigate this extended closure together, but NEISD has a number of resources in place to help you, your family and your community right now.

From day one of our closure, our School Nutrition department coordinated the preparation and distribution of curbside “to go” meals for our students. More than 70,000 breakfasts and lunches have been handed out in just the first week. The nutrition team is working around the clock to establish a way to feed students who can’t make it to a campus feeding site. On Monday, March 23, the District will mobilize its NEISD Fresh Express bus routes to pass out even more meals across our community. This is where you’ll find a list of NEISD curbside meal sites.

The District’s dedicated Curriculum team is coordinating daily with teachers and administrators so they can provide students with the resources they need to continue learning while they’re out of the classroom. Lessons will continue through online resources or with hard copies that can be picked up from their home campus.

We have information on our COVID-19 critical updates page. This platform offers a wide variety of parent and student resources to make the transition as smooth as possible.

While our students may be out of the classroom, the obstacles they face every day remain. The District is launching a Counselor Support Line on Monday, March 23rd, that will provide students a direct link to our dedicated healthcare professionals. Guidance and support will also be available through email and communication apps like Zoom, Google Hangouts or Google Classroom.

This health crisis has created challenges and changed the way we approach, but by working together, we will get through this and create new possibilities. It’s my commitment to you to keep you regularly updated. Click on the Skyward Family Access link on the NEISD homepage to make sure your contact information is up-to-date, as we will share updates through email, phone, text and social media as soon as it becomes available.

And don’t forget – you can find the latest information and resources from the District on our COVID-19 response, posted to our website and updated regularly.

Remember – we are here for you.

NEISD cares.

Thank you for watching.
