Hidden Forest unveils new gym

“This gym is much bigger and brighter.”

Fifth-grader Nina Karam can’t get enough of the new athletic facilities at Hidden Forest Elementary School.

“All of fifth grade really enjoys the rock climbing wall, “said Karam. “In like fourth grade, we were in a portable, and there wasn’t really much room for that.”

On Feb. 20, North East ISD Superintendent of Schools, Sean Maika, and Board of Trustees President, Shannon Grona, joined Nina and her classmates for the official opening of the gymnasium. The school also invited former principals and the entire team in charge of creating and building the massive new gym to the festivities.

This addition was part of a nearly $8 million-dollar bond project approved by voters in 2015. The gym is bright, colorful and full of new physical fitness areas, like nets, climbing ropes and a very popular rock climbing wall.

“You see color, which our children love, we have so much more room now, “ said Renette Powell, Hidden Forest’s newly-appointed principal. “We have a rock climbing wall now. The children absolutely love it.”
